Citizens Memorial Hospital receives 4-star CMS rating

Citizens Memorial Hospital adds another national recognition for patient safety and quality. The hospital now has a four-star rating from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The star rating appears on the CMS Care Compare site. Only 40% of the 2,847 rated hospitals have a rating of four stars or higher.

“This new star rating is further evidence of the high-quality care patients receive at CMH,” said Michael Calhoun, CEO/executive director of CMH/CMH Foundation. “Safety and quality are a high priority at CMH and a team effort that involves everyone. We are continually reviewing processes and taking innovative approaches to providing the best patient experience.”

CMS calculates the rating using 46 quality measures in five groups: Mortality, timely and effective care, safety of care, readmission and patient experience. The Overall Star Rating gives consumers a simple rating generated by combining multiple aspects of quality into a single summary score.

The four-star rating is just one measure of safe, quality care at CMH. In May, The Leapfrog Group gave CMH an “A” Hospital Safety Grade. Learn more at HospitalSafetyGrade.org.

“The Leapfrog and CMS recognitions are giving us great momentum as we look forward to opening our expansion in 2026,” Calhoun said. “Safe, quality care in a state-of-the-art facility will be an exceptional patient experience.”
